Abstract

|
|
The study was made to find out the specific nursing care administered in the newborn nursery. The data was obtained from clinical records of 1,098 neonates born in an R General hospital in Seoul between January 1st of 1984 and December 3rd of 1986.
The results were as follows.
1. General Characteristics
1)Sex distribution : male´ 542(49.4%), female 556(50.6%)
2)The distribution of gestational period was as follows full term 894(81A%), preterm 99(9.0%), postterm 98(8.9%),
3)The distribution of delivery type was as follows; spontaneous delivery 438 (39.9%), C-section 356(32.4%), Vacuum extracted delivery 282(5.7%), Breech delivery 22(2.0%)
4) The measured growth date of the neonate at birth was as follows ;
Birth weight 3.92kg, Birth height 49.4ox, Head circumference 33.1am, Chest Circumference 31.4o x,
5)In the duration of admission, the shortest duration was I day and the longest was 56days. The average duration of admission was 5.9days.
6)The distribution of the neonatal health problems discovered at birth was as follows ;
The most frequent problems was meconium stain(13.4%), followed by infection (10.8%), birth injury(9.7%), respiratory problems(9.6%), blood and circulatory problems(8.9%).
2. The distribution of specific nursing care administered in the nursery was as follows ;
The most common specific care was incubator care, followed by oxygen therapy, antibiotic therapy, infusion therapy, phototherapy, ressuscitation, P.O. medication, gavage feeding.
3. The mean value of specific nursing care administered in nursery according to the characteristic of the neonate was highest in pager score 0-3 group, low birth weight group, preterm group, and breech delivered group.
4. The mean value of specific nursing care administered in nursery according to the characteristic of the mother was highest among neonates who were born in the mother with multiple gestation and placenta previa.
5. the mean value of specific nursing care administered in nursery was higher in the neonate who had experienced health problems at birth than in did not experience health problems at birth.
